Zoid: You should only be working on Keyboard letters. That first Z is all you should be doing, over and over again, until you figure out how to give it some proper style. No bends or extensions right now. Basic keyboard letters.
I get it, but these are all working from the same formula, no extentions and no extras, just playing with depth and bonding boxes. I am practicing my keyboard letters. I'm not going to post pages of the same keyboard Z here. My practice time as of right now is 70% fundamentals and 30% fun so criticize these all you want because these are me pushing my current level of fundamentals and having some fun. Growth comes from pushing the envelope, refinement comes from repetition.
90 -10 90% key board but you got to experiment 10% or you'll loes your funk/fun/style . thats for every body learning . I took some screen shots of some shit over th3 last year's and boy I tell you doing nothing but simple shit will block you creatively . This is like 2011 ish maybe 12 . Fast foward 2015 Then I found grim and started to really work on my letters thwm self. The rest of the dates are pretty close fron here out
Jesus Lboe, ya heard of cropping before ? but yeah, 90-10 is a pretty good break down haha If your gonna have fun with perspective, then do the whole damn word. No point in fixating on one letter at your skill level right now, and doing the different perspectives for the whole word would be better practice. The whole point in the beginning is to be able to make a simple that still looks good, and has flow. That box doesn't have flow, obviously. So your next step is to maybe round the edges, while keeping the keyboard shape. Then maybe tilt the entire word, but still keep it keyboard. Doing this, you slowly ad more as you get better; you will progress, and you won't jump the gun. Honestly, I was mostly reacting to those bottom 2 Z's, but still.. For Lboe's pieces, the best example of this I would say is his second to last one, yellow. Its still super simple, with minimal flare, but looks good; and if you took out the extensions, it still has flow. So, aim to hit that level first, with no or very very few extensions, and then go from there.
I just noticed that you create a boxes before you actually sketch out the O and the D. It's more beneficial if you take the time to develop muscle memory for curvy letters.
Yeah I usually do box everything out, it's a habit from me going to big and having to squish the last letters. Sometimes I use them as a letter guide but it's mostly for balancing letter size and kerning. It's a comfort I need to break for sure though, thanks for the advice
Z can also be round regardles what any of els tells you . just keep that in mind if you find your z isnt matching the other letters. Cus there rounded letters
Was writing spot for a while but I seen someone else on here writing it and dont want to bite anyone ones shit.
