yeahh, what's the deal with being measured for a bike and all? like.... i'm not too short but i'm only like 5'6"... and what if i already have a sick bike, it's an old fuji, here's a shitty cell flick of it on the stand.... what all would go into making it a fixed gear?
1.) To get measured, the best way is to have a shop do it, but its really not to hard. You measure from the floor, all the way to your balls. If your 5'6" your probably around a size 51-53. When you fit a bike on you, you get on top of the bike, getting ready to mount it, but you dont sit down on the seat, just kinda sitting on the top tube. Your ball sack shouldnt really be touching, you should have about half an inch or even maybe a little less than that between your sack and the frame and thats how you know its your size. I wont get into detail about leg reach with the crank and all that unless you wanna know, but thats the jist of it. 2.) As for the fuji, if you wanna convert it its pretty simple. All you really need is a new crank(ring) and a fixed cog in the back. The easiest with that, is just buy a nice wheel for about $100 that has the cog and laced to an ok hub. Next thing you'll need is a new chain, you CAN use the one you have and just shorten it, but i recomend getting the rite size chain, just ask for a 1 1/8 chain at your local shop, there like $10.
