Man, this thread used to be about friendly criticism and photography now kids have been shooting for a year and have got big ego's, what's the point in a photography thread if kids throw criticism back at you with a fuck you?

    Over it.

Don't ask me, I was just shooting for a clothing line.

I think the designer had the theme of zombies and sexual tension

im all for criticism, but when i do 2 band shots that are different from my usual style, their dreamy or w/e..

just didnt get what your saying, all i said was that my iso was on 100 and that was the look i was going for

no need to get all upset buddy, i would gladly take the advice IF i wanted to go for a crisp feel, i wanted the "dreamy" effect in those

    yeah this thread sucks now.
And band photos are absolutely snore boring unless they are amazing. I think they are as glamorous and legitimate as event photography.................to be completely honest

you don't see me posting up my commercial shots in law firms and things like that cos damn, that shit's boring yo.

    anyway,

KMC how did you get that swish of the drum stick to be so staggered like this?

if i had to guess i'd say he didn't do anything. certain lights operate like super fast strobe lights. there's a few street lights around my town that work that way. i always wave my hands around when i go near them. its cool.

Ambient light, no flash. Not sure if its a light or a window but either way hes being back/top lit by a continuous light source. Shooting with cranked iso or really fast film there is enough light on the subject to expose the drumstick as its in motion.

    It's a trade secret.

not really. That shot was on film, and no flash. I've wondered how that drumstick got staggered like that myself, because all the shots from that night are like that.

The best explanation that I can come up with is that the club had a fluorescent backlight, which actually turns on and off 60 cycles per second (due the the 60hz AC power) and that's why it's staggered in motion like that. I really like the effect. If it was an incandescent light, it would have just been motion blur.

ares you pretty much got it right, it's 3200 film and probably in the range of 1/30-1/60 sec (i don't really know for sure) but it's definetly because of fluorescent lights.
